Casework Volunteers

As well as listening to families’ point of view and explaining their rights, we give a high level of practical support to the families we work with.   Casework volunteers work under the supervision of the caseworker to assist with this practical support.  The role can include accompanying families to visit schools, or to access local services such as the CAB, a park, library, leisure centre or children’s centre.

Commitment

We ask all Casework Volunteers to commit at least three hours a week during school hours, for a period of at least 6 months. It is very helpful if volunteers have some flexibility in the times and days they are available.  Casework Volunteers need to be able to travel to all areas of Wandsworth and sometimes to surrounding boroughs.

Support for Volunteers

Once we have received your application form you will be invited for a short interview.  After that you will attend an induction session and training on confidentiality.  You will discuss each appointment with a family with the caseworker prior to the visit, and debrief with the caseworker afterwards.  This will normally be by telephone and/or email.  You will be invited to a regular review meeting with the caseworker, but can also arrange to meet with the caseworker as you feel necessary.

How to Apply

If you are interested in volunteering as a caseworker, please contact lucy@love-to-learn.org.uk.  All volunteers will need to have two references before starting, as well as an up to date DBS (criminal records check), although we can apply for this on your behalf if need be.  Let us know if you already have an up to date DBS.  This check is required for everyone who works with children or vulnerable people.
